The title jaA Hmw.t StA.t occurs only on the false door of Hwj, a late Old Kingdom physician. Titles and epithets like this may reflect not only social prestige but also some kind of special and probably restricted sacral knowledge. 'Speaker of the secret art' refers to the usage of a perhaps magical language (ja3) in medicine (Hmw.t St3.t). In order to be efficacious this language should transcend daily life, and so should be in some sense non-Egyptian. In this context ja3 means either metaphorically an abracadabra or possibly a real foreign language. It is presented here as the special language spoken by someone initiated into the 'secret art' (of medicine).
